Back to School Morning Routine | Start Your Morning Like a Boss

Before I begin to make it seem as if I have the most perfect mornings, I don’t. There was a point of time where I missed every alarm and decided to sleep in. Well anyways, I’ve had a big turn-around during my summer and Fall classes. In the summer, I commuted an hour to a Phlebotomy Certification class that started at 9am. Now I have 8am classes almost everyday. Between the two, I’m awake by at least 7:00am daily and no later than 6:30am for my 8:00am classes. Basically, I found something to wake me up in the morning. For me, it happens to be blogging and classes. We’ll all have a morning routine that works for us and is specific to our goals. I’ll go ahead and tell you the things that I do and you can choose to add to your routine if applicable. Hopefully you’ll see a few similarities AND differences. We obviously don’t have the same goals.

Revisit Your Planner

90% of my planner was completed on the first day of classes. This includes all assignments, tests, and quiz dates. Things that I write in along the way:

  • Days to begin an assignment/studying
  • Meetings
  • and date of completion

During each morning, I write down my critical tasks. These are the things that I must get completed for the day. I start with these tasks before I move to something else that may be in my planner.

Do the Essentials

The first thing I do when I wake up is open my blinds (it helps to wake me up). Then, I check my text messages and social media. On a good day, I would do this after the other essentials (brushing my teeth, combing through my hair, etc.).

Make Coffee/Breakfast

Well, I’m obviously a coffee girl. I’ve been drinking iced coffee lately, and for some reason it wakes me up more than hot coffee. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with science, but anyways. I haven’t always made breakfast but this has a positive effect on my morning routine. I go to class refreshed when I’m not hungry. I always eat a quick breakfast, such as a bagel and cream cheese, muffin, or fruit smoothie. This usually always holds me over until lunch.

Sometimes, social media isn’t always for entertainment for me. I spend the time available in the morning replying to blog and social media comments. If I have a new post for the day, I would spend a few more times proofreading before I am ready to post it. Even though I’ve probably read for the 30th time. This happens to be my most favorite part of the mornings.


Now it’s time to go to class and BE A BOSS.

    It sounds like you have your routine down pat! I tend to do my blogging activities in the evenings, so early mornings are not something I am fond of. It’s something I’m going to have to revisit in the near future, I’m sure!

    You seem so much more organized in the morning then I am. I love these tips, and will be using some to get myself more organized and ready for the day in the morning. I have started doing a bullet journal, so I could start there in the morning!

      You can :). It all depends on your priorities for the remainder of the day. I happen to not have as much free time as I wish due to school and blogging. Though, I don’t think that a less productive morning is necessarily bad as long as you have other times of the day to work towards your goals. A night person is just as good as a morning person.

    Loved this! I should try opening my blinds in the morning to see if it helps me wake up! I’ve never been a morning person but sitting down in the morning and not touching your phone until after the essentials seems like a good idea.

      I don’t consider myself a morning person either and I was previously very solid on the idea of me not being a morning person. I still don’t consider myself that but instead I found something that I would be excited to wake me up in the morning. Those things happen to be waiting for a test grade that I know I did amazing on and checking the feedback from my content. I think it helped me a lot.

      My holiday mornings and school mornings are actually very similar. Though, I tend to wake up an hour later on holiday mornings but my routine is pretty much the same.

    I like the idea of keeping a planner and setting daily tasks. And breakfast is always an important meal for me, I think it’s totally unhealthy to skip breakfast. Like how well you plan your mornings out:-)

    I really wish I had the time to do some of the things here. I suppose I could go back to publishing only a couple of pieces per week. But I would feel bad as I feel like I have developed a connection with my audience doing three days a week. I would love to sit and do more editing of my posts beforehand. That’s where I feel sad.

      I am all for whatever works for your audience. They are definitely what’s best for your brand. Since you publish so much during the week you probably don’t have as much time. I’m such a neat freak. I usually read the same edited post at least 10 times after it’s all edited.

    It’s great that you are able to have a great routine. For me, the morning is always a struggle for time as it takes my kids forever to get things done. I wish I can have a checklist and just cross them off as I get through my mornings.

      A checklist definitely makes everything go smoother in the morning for me. You should give it a try to measure the benefits. Then, you could base your decision to maintain a routine off of your own results. Good luck!
